ROTARY Club 40 LORE 7-28-2010

99 YEARS AGO: The first meeting of the Rotary Club (to be) was held at the old Commercial Club rooms on Monday evening, April 1st, 1912.

99 YEARS AGO: The club's charter was granted on April 25, 1912. It's first service activities included "a committee to the city council to keep newsboys out of saloons", purchasing 150 pair of ice skates for needy boys in Superior, and a committee to work with the county board for establishing a bird sanctuary.

1962 to 1987: Knute Nelson became our first Paul Harris fellow followed by an Honorary membership for Rudy Anderson.

99 YEARS AGO: It took only 25 days for Club 40 to get its charter from NARCA. Today it can take over a year.

99 YEARS AGO: NARCA (National Association of Rotary Clubs of America) chartered Club 40 because RI was not yet in existence.

25 years ago: Governor Tommy Thompson sent us a note congratulating Club 40 on its community service and longevity. Maybe he's available for a visit in 2012.
